Repetitive nature of a DBA

Blogs Data Management - 26 Agosto, 2008 - 20:59
While putting non-HP memory into my database server might not have been the best thing in the world, it did re-teach me a very important lesson. Many of the tasks we perform on a day to day basis are repetitive in nature. So I ask you, and myself: Have we perfected the repetitive tasks yet? Rebuilding my database server, at the core, requires three large steps. The first being to install the operating

ETL versus ELT

Blogs Data Management - 26 Agosto, 2008 - 17:55
Many of you ask me questions on the primary differences between ELT and ETL - and to clarify, it's really as simple as Extract-Transform-Load and Extract-Load-Transform. The primary difference is, where do we do the work, really? ELT is a domain for a machine that can pull it off. A typical SMP-based RDBMS is NOT an ETL platform, no matter how much we wish it so. What's that? You're not doing

I'm a political junkie so naturally I'm watching the party conventions, looking for some inspiration, some good speeches then hitting MSNBC, CNN - everywhere looking at commentary. I thought it was my project that had a problem but I think it's more of a global "people" issue and it's only getting worse. No one closes their mouth long enough to hear what someone else is saying or they are so
