Dynamex Saves Thousands of hours for greater business Visibility wiht QilkView Analysis Portal

Moving from Excel Spreadsheets to QlikView Dynamic Analysis Saves an estimated 300 to 400 hours a Week in Reporting Time

Radnor, PA - 13 July 2010- By replacing dependence on Excel reporting with a QlikView-driven Business Analysis Portal, QlikTech customer Dynamex, a leading provider of same-day delivery and logistics services in the United States and Canada, has substantially increased its business visibility while eliminating an estimated 300 to 400 hours weekly in reporting tasks. The portal solution, which consists of seven dashboards for sales, operations and accounting, was deployed to more than 300 users in only three months, integrating and analyzing several million rows of data from the company’s Oracle E-Business and Siebel CRM systems and an internally developed operational system based on Java, JSP and Oracle.

Dynamex serves a large customer base with a transaction volume of more than 40,000 orders per day. Using QlikView, the company moved from basing business reporting and analysis on summarized Excel spreadsheets to near real-time graphical data views. Information that once took up to a week to compile can be accessed with one click, and provides more business answers with intuitive data associations and drilldowns.

“We chose QlikView over Oracle BIEE and SAP Business Objects because of the great reviews from other users, its competitive pricing and the fact that QlikView is geared for business analysts instead of IT developers,” said Andrew Pardue, VP of Information Services at Dynamex. “It’s great for my department because our business analysts can design their own applications on the fly in QlikView with little or no IT involvement.”

The QlikView-driven Dynamex Business Analysis Portal features seven dashboards:

Sales Territory Portfolio Dashboard: Assists with managing sales territories by comparing sales productivity against budget. It also provides a review of sales for invoiced periods and compares sales across multiple periods.

Sales Incentive Dashboard: Assists with calculating monthly eligible incentive program payments for Dynamex sales professionals based on their assigned portfolio accounts with a breakdown of components and account detail as backup.

Customer Analysis Dashboard: Provides senior and branch managers with a quick glance of their top 25 customers, including revenue composition details. Shows sales trending over time and points out top performing customers, attrition and growth.

Fuel Surcharge (FSC) Dashboard: Provides actual fuel charges that are billed and paid to drivers. Drilldowns to branch and customer levels can be used to find errors in FSC billing and for tracking margin percentages. Data can be displayed for any period of time, such as for a specific day, month or multiple months.

Revenue and Settlement Dashboard: Shows trending for revenue, payments and margins. Data can be viewed for any period of time (years, quarters, months, weeks, days) by region, branch, customer group, account, driver and service type with or without fuel surcharge.

Revenue Stream Dashboard: Assists with monitoring revenue increases and decreases. Shows daily revenue, order and yield trends over a two-year period.

Customer Aging Dashboard: Provides quick, easy access to Accounts Receivable daily balances and daily balances and user notes for customers that have been escalated. Data can be viewed by branch total, customer aging or invoice aging.

Among advantages of creating the Business Analysis Portal in QlikView was that it had no requirement to build a data warehouse and could use existing security structure in applications and Microsoft Active Directory. Dashboards are accessed through Microsoft SharePoint according to an end user’s security permissions. Development started with replacing Excel reports that required the most manual effort, which freed up time to accelerate development of additional QlikView dashboards.
